Planning yay!!

At our first meeting we will discuss all aspects of the ceremony such as date, time, venue, type of ceremony, vows, and all elements that will make the day. It will take around  1 ½  hours and we will spend all the time that is required to craft your ceremony.

I will encourage you to be fully involved by asking questions, discussing requirements, making suggestions and working together to create your perfect dream day.

At this time we can also start the process by completing the Notice of Intended Marriage form (NOIM) which must be signed in my presence as witness. This is the first legal step in the process and the form must be lodged a minimum of one month and one day before the proposed marriage. It is valid for eighteen months from that time.

You will need to  bring along with you:

  • Identification – Drivers Licence or passport

  • Your original birth certificate if born in Australia (photocopies cannot be accepted).

  • If you were born outside Australia, your overseas passport can be provided in the absence of a translated birth certificate.

  • If previously married, proof of dissolution - Divorce Certificate or Decree Absolute, if previous spouse is deceased a Death Certificate is required.

  • If either the intended persons is under 18, the required form of consent (Only one can be under 18, not both)

A final meeting shortly before the wedding day will be arranged and we will discuss all the final arrangements, check that all parts of the ceremony are correct.

A Statutory Declaration will be prepared for each partner to sign and be witnessed by me and will state that each knows of no legal reason why they should not marry and also that they are both over 18. I will also have the Marriage Certificate printed to ensure that the names are correct.

This meeting will normally be used to have a rehearsal of how everything will happen on the special day. We will go through the ceremony itself and who stands where, who holds the rings and so on. It will be an opportunity for any last minute questions or changes to be discussed.
